Peer-to-peer (P2P) Alternatives

The Recording Industry Association of American lists the following pay-for-download programs as free from copyright infringement.  Therefore, ITS will allow the use of these programs, although the amount of bandwidth provided may be restricted.  It is also possible that you may be unable to connect to one or more of these services.  If that is the case, please let us know by sending an e-mail to

AOL Music (Must use the AOL 9.x software)
Apple's iTunes Music Store (Must use iTunes music software)
Napster (Must use tehe Napster software)
RealNetworks' Rhapsody (Must be using RealPlayer)

Please be aware that there are numerous other websites and programs that charge a fee for downloading music that are not listed above.  Those websites, while still charging a fee, are equivalent to using illegal P2P sharing programs as the royalties are not paid to the RIAA or the artists.  Many of these websites operate under questionable legal standing and have “licenses” from places that may not even exist such as “The Ivory Coast International Musical Cooperation Incentive”.
