Where should I go if I need help?
Please contact the ITS Help Desk directly. They can be reached at helpdesk@manchester.edu, https://helpdesk.manchester.edu, or at x5454.
Can I go to Hotmail to access my email?
No. You must go to https://exchangelabs.com/owa to access your email.
Will there be a link to the new email system on the College's main Web site?
The changes have been made to the site. The links are on the Current Student tab of the main Web site (under Student resoures) and an entry has been placed in the Quick Link. In both cases, the link is referred to as MC Student Email. That takes you to the Windows Live account. MC Mail still takes you to the old email system.
How do I configure Outlook 2007 to use my new Windows Live account? Can I configure Outlook 2003 or earlier?
To watch a Flash video for configuring Outlook 2007 to the new Windows Live account, please click here. Please remember that Outlook 2007 is available for use in all of the College PC labs although you'll need headphones to listen to the instructional video on a lab PC. SUPPORT FOR OUTLOOK 2003 IS NOT AVAILABLE. However, some students have been fortunate enough to get this to work. For instructions to configure Outlook 2003 (again, no ITS guarantees that it will work because it is UNSUPPORTED) or for assistance with problems configuring Outlook 2007, please refer to these instructions: Word 2007 or Older Word. A huge thank you to John Kidwell for putting these instructions together for us.
How do I export my Inbox, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, or other folder from my old email account to my new Windows Live account?
To watch a Flash video for exporting a folder like Contacts (or Calender, etc.) from your old email account and importing it to the new Windows Live account, please click here.
Does Windows Live work in browsers other than IE?
Yes but, as with all things Microsoft, it works best with Internet Explorer. We strongly recommend that you use either Outlook or Internet Explorer to access your Windows Live account.
I sent email from Windows Live account to my friends using the Windows Live address book. My friends only received the email in their Windows Live account. Didn't you say that until April 20th, email would show up in both our old and new accounts?
We should have been clearer. Email sent to your student@manchester.edu email address from now through April 20th will arrive at both your old and new accounts. However, the Windows Live address list only uses the new student@spartans.manchester.edu email address. Therefore, messages to the new address will only arrive in the new account.
The College has chosen to move students to a Microsoft Windows Live account in an effort to improve the level of service students receive. The amount of email storage the College can provide is dwarfed by the 5Gb of storage offered by this Windows Live account. In addition to using the Windows Live storage for email, you can use up to 1Gb of that space to store files online. Another benefit is that these email accounts will be available to you for the rest of your life.
Yes, it will. Your email address will change from username@manchester.edu to username@spartans.manchester.edu. Until Monday, June 2nd, 2008, any email sent to your old email address will be sent to your new email address. You will be responsible for notifying others of your email address change.
Will the 2007 graduates, who are still on the current system, be moved to the new system? What about other alumni?
Yes, but the 2007 graduates will probably be moved in April to the new system after Microsoft performs an upgrade. 2007 graduates will then have until May 26th to migrate the information in their old mailbox to the new one. We will completely purge 2007 graduate accounts, including email, H:\ drives, etc., from our system on May 26th.
How will I access my email? Can I still use Outlook?
There are 2 ways to access your new email account. First, You can only access your email via the Web at https:/exchangelabs.com/owa. Once there, be sure that the Outlook Web Access radio button is selected and then press the "Sign in" button. You can also set up Outlook 2007 (for training video click here) or Outlook 2003 (training video pending) to connect to the new email system.
When will my email address change?
Your new email address will be available by noon on Wednesday, March 12th. Through Sunday, April 20th, email sent to username@manchester.edu will be delivered to both your old email account and your new Windows Live account. Between March 12th and April 20th, we hope you’ll test the new email system to ensure that you are receiving all of your email on the new account. Starting Monday, April 21st, any email sent to username@manchester.edu will only appear in your new Windows Live account.
- March 12th @ Noon -- New Windows Live account available for use
- March 12th through April 20th -- Email to username@manchester.edu sent to both on-campus and Windows Live accounts
April 21st and beyond -- All email delivered to Windows Live onlyMay 26thJune 2nd and beyond -- Email address username@manchester.edu no longer valid and old mailbox deleted
When will the old email service end?
The old email service will end on Sunday, May 25thJune 1st. We will purge the old email accounts starting on Monday, May 26thJune 2nd. We strongly recommend that you move any information (email, contacts, calendar items) to your new Windows Live account no later than Sunday, May 25thJune 1st. Your username@manchester.edu email address will no longer work beginning Monday, June 2nd.
Do I need to notify others about my email address change?
Yes, you will. Starting Monday, June 2nd, your old email address of username@manchester.edu will no longer work. Those sending to that email address will receive an email indicating that the email sent was not deliverable.
Does this mean my password will change? Will I have another password to remember?
Yes, you will have to maintain your Windows Live account password separately.
How do I test the new email account?
From Wednesday, March 12th, until Sunday, April 20thJune 1st, we recommend that you test your email accounts side by side. You will want to determine if all of the email from your old email account was received in your new email account.
You will also want to keep your old email account clean by deleting the email you accurately received in your new email account.
How do I move the email I currently have stored in my College email account to Windows Live?
You should select the email you want to move from the old email account and forward it to your new email account. When you forward the email, be sure to send it to username@spartans.manchester.edu.
What if I don’t move my email in time? Can I get it back?
If you do not forward the information in your old email account by Sunday, May 25thJune 1st, you will lose it. There will be no way to recover it.
Will we still have the Manchester College Organization (MCO) distribution lists for student organizations like Chapel, Habitat for Humanity, and Kenapocomoco? If so, how will membership be managed?
In the next few days, we hope to have all email addresses, including faculty, staff, and distribution lists, in the Windows Live address book for you to use. In fact, all faculty and staff are in the Windows Live address book as of this afternoon (3/13).
Can MC students and employees still be in a distribution list together?
Yes, that will not change.
Will I have access to the College’s Outlook address list that I can view when I press the To: button in a new email? Will my Windows Live account be on the College’s Outlook address list?
Yes, the Windows Live address book will ultimately look the same as the current Outlook Address Book you may have used. And, yes, your name will appear in the Outlook Address Book. If someone chooses your name from that list, you will receive the email in your Windows Live account.
Will there be advertising on my Windows Live account?
Yes, you will see advertising on your Windows Live account. This is identical to a normal Windows Live account.
Because RAs and Health Assistants have employee-type access to the College's phone and voicemail systems, they currently receive voicemail in the email Inbox. Will this still be true?
No. That feature will no longer work. The voicemail will only be accessible by phone.
FACULTY/STAFF: Will faculty and staff see any changes in their email service as a result of the move?
Yes. Sometime this summer, after the student move is complete, ITS will upgrade our email service to Exchange Server 2007 on new servers. The result of this upgrade will be new features and an increased mailbox size to almost 2GB.
STAFF/FACULTY: If I’m using distribution lists that are in my Outlook Contacts, and those lists contain current MC student addresses, do I have to change each one?
Yes, you will have to manually adjust your personal distribution lists. However, ITS will handle the distribution lists in the Outlook address list. For example, ITS will handle changes to the Manchester College Organization distribution groups such as MCO Chapel, MCO Habitat for Humanity, or MCO Kenepocomoco.
FACULTY: What do I need to do differently to email to an individual student? Will Blackboard or ANGEL do this all for me for classes?
Until June 2nd, when the old email address will no longer work, you do not need to do anything. As June 2nd approaches, ITS will provide further instructions. ITS will address the Blackboard and ANGEL email addresses automatically.
I really don’t have time for this. Why now? Can this wait?
We fully appreciate the inconvenience that this migration will cause. We tried very hard to balance the benefits you will receive with the inconvenience experienced. That’s why we are phasing in the implementation. We wanted to perform the migration while you were on campus so we can assist you should any problem arise. In the short term, you needn’t do anything. We strongly recommend, though, that you start using your new Windows Live account on March 12th. But please realize that your email is being delivered to both your old and new accounts starting on March 12th.
Who do I contact to answer my remaining questions?
