What Information Does Manchester Collect?

In the course of ensuring network security and consistent service for all users, ITS at Manchester employs software programs to do such things as monitor network traffic, identify potential unauthorized access or access to nonpublic information, and to detect computer viruses and other software that might damage University computers or the network. Software is also used to monitor and tune the performance of the University network. In the course of such monitoring, these programs may detect information such as IP addresses, e-mail headers, and addresses from network packets. Other software, such as Cisco Clean Access, may collect Registry Keys from your personal computer to show that your machine is up-to-date and safe for the network.  At no time, however, does the Clean Access Agent collect personal information about you.
Information from these activities is used only for the purpose of maintaining the security and performance of the University's network and computer systems. Personally identifiable information from these activities is not released to internal or external parties without your consent unless required by law or University policy.
Manchester.edu receives and records certain types of information including the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet and computer and connection information such as browser type and version. In addition, like many Web sites, Eckerd.edu uses a technology called "cookies" to record your activity while visiting the Web site. A number of companies and browsers offer utilities designed to block the passage of automatic information or the use of cookies. Although these utilities will prevent you from having a personalized experience at Manchester.edu, we want you to be aware that these tools exist. Public forums such as chat rooms, message boards, and/or news groups may also be made available to visitors to our site. Manchester encourages you to remember that information disclosed in public forums is public information, and caution should be exercised when disclosing personal information.
If a user has voluntarily made his/her accounts public then the University may monitor, without notice, that person's activities, accounts, and use of University computing resources, including individual login sessions and communications. This may also be done when monitoring appears necessary to protect the integrity, security, or functionality of University resources or to protect the University from liability.
